The Neighborhood The Castro The Castro is one of the world's original and most well known gay neighborhoods. In the '60's, young gays started moving into what was an old run down Victorian neighborhood. Now, the area is alive with popular shops and clubs such as Daddy's and The Bar on Castro. The neighborhood's center of life is the historic Castro Theater, a popular gathering place where gays from all around the world gather.
