Seattle
Seattle,
Washington
Early Seattle, built below sea level and surrounded by higher terrain, was prone to flooding
with every high tide. This, mixed with the early city's own sewage, almost destroyed the
town.
Then, a fire destroyed the town. It was rebuilt with one modification. To combat the
flooding, all of the roads were raised to the second level. Eventually, the sidewalks were
raised as well. Seattle's first level was buried and forgotten.
Imagine a century ago when women of ill repute lined this walkway. Turn your head quickly
and you just might see one.
A picture on a decaying brick wall is the only reminder of the way this majestic bank once
looked... Before the burial and the legends.
The temperature drops down the forgotten hallways leading to the bowels of the bank.
The ceaseless clank of people walking above haunts this abandoned corridor.
The teller's cage sits empty... But not always. A man in a bolar hat with a thick mustache
has been seen wandering these halls.
Here, in the old vault, is where he is usually seen. There was no black mist when the
picture was taken. Perhaps this is the old man, still guarding the valuables entrusted to
him more than a century ago.
An uneasy stillness permeated the surroundings. Perhaps it is the cry of decay from all
around. Perhaps it was because we weren't alone.
