Nashville,
Tennessee
The Tennessee State Capitol was built on Nashville's highest point. Many say this is just
one of the factors leading to the many enexplained events here.
The building was designed by architect William Strickland. Another man, Samuel Morgan, was
appointed to oversee Strickland's work. The two argued constantly about everything from
materials to money.
William Strickland never saw the completion of his structure. He died in 1854, shortly before
its completion. Because he loved the building so, he was entombed in the structure's north
foundation wall.
Only one other man has the distinction of being entombed in the Tennessee State Capitol as
well. His name, Strickland's old nemesis, Samuel Morgan.
To this day, it is said that late at night even when the legislature isn't even in session,
voices can be heard arguing in the building's walls.
