The Minnesota State Capitol, opened in 1905, is widely regarded as one of the nation's most
beautiful state houses.
The building, modeled after Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City, is known for more
than just its government functions.
It is known to be haunted.
The building, built on a hill just north of downtown Saint Paul, is as immense as it is
beautiful, with more than enough room for many legends.
Many employees claim, late at night, to have seen people walking the halls, dressed in the
fashions of days past.
Some say they are old state representatives, still performing their tasks after all these
years. Others say they may even be old governors, still residing where they spent the most
important years of their lives.
The second level of the capitol is said to be haunted. Weird noises are heard here, while
"unusual cold air" has been felt about.
But the most enduring legend is that of room 217. It is said that this used to be a judge's
office. People have been inexplicably locked into this room.
The Minnesota State Capitol is full of beauty and history. But watch out. There are legends
about that rival the noteriety of the famous, free-standing dome.
