Huntsville,
Alabama
In olde town Huntsville lies Maple Hill Cemetery, one of Alabama's oldest and largest
cemeteries.
It is home to many legends. One is that of the black angel of the Erskine Mausoleum. The
angel is said to appear if one shines lights in just the right angle on the front of the
structure at night.
A young woman was raped and killed on the Erskine Mausoluem steps. She was discovered with
her blood splattered about. Although the blood has been cleaned, eventually it always
reappears.
A grandmother was laid in another mausoleum. Her favorite rocking chair was placed next to
her. At night, they say, you can look through the window and see it slowly rocking.

But the greatest legend is this tiny playground, hidden away in a dark grotto. But its
location is anything but peaceful.
Even on wind-less days, swings move and sand kicks up as if unseen children are still busy
playing. They say if you listen close enough, you can hear the laughter of children at play
very nearby. But when you turn to look, there is nobody.
