Creek
Church
Columbia,
Tennessee
It has been called many things- a house of pure evil, the mysterious home of the devil, and a
church of no denomination. It is officially known as the Bear Creek Church.
The Bear Creek congregation was formed in 1814, meeting in a log cabin at the site. It was
replaced in 1860 by the fine brick building still standing today. It was christened the Bear
Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Although known as one of the strongest congregations in the country, the building was
abruptly vacated in 1938. The building has stood empty since then. It has become a favorite
of paranormal enthusiasts everywhere.
There is a second level to the building, though there is no known access to it. Its windows
are painted blood red. But people swear to feeling, sometimes seeing, something watching
from those upper windows.
The building itself is in surprisingly good condition. Especially for one that has been
abandoned for so many years. Perhaps something else occupies it...
They say that loud noises and scratches are heard from the upper level. Strange marks and
bruises appear on unwitting visitors. And strange beings, seen by some but not by others,
watch visitors from the darkest corners.
Some claim to have seen the devil himself within the brown brick walls.
There are other stories of the area surrounding the church. Phantom cars and animals are
seen roaming the nearby road and cemetery.
They say a strange energy guards the cemetery, where many of the congregation’s founding
members rest eternally.
A strange energy seems to watch over the entire place, as a feeling of uneasiness mixed with
excitement takes over as one approaches the building. Perhaps it is a warning. Perhaps it
is an invitation. Perhaps it is a trap.
